Age limit and steering
Kenya generally allows used passenger vehicles up to eight years old and requires right-hand drive for normal road registration, subject to local authority rules and exceptions. Buyers should confirm the year of first registration and steering position before paying any deposit.
KEBS inspection and documents
Kenya importers should confirm whether the vehicle needs pre-export inspection and a Certificate of Conformity or roadworthiness certificate through a KEBS-appointed inspection body. The document pack should also include B/L, invoice, packing list and vehicle registration/export documents.
KRA CRSP and landed cost
Kenya Revenue Authority uses CRSP values and local tax rules to calculate duties and taxes. CIF is not the final landed cost; buyers should budget for import duty, excise duty where applicable, VAT, levies, port charges, agent fees and local registration. Always verify the latest KRA CRSP notice before ordering.
